Diary Entry December 2010

I was going to say, ‘well, where did the last six months go?’ but actually I know exactly where they went for me. I’ve been hard at work on the new novel And Then It Happened. Here’s the blurb:

Mel Taylor found her Mr Right at age thirteen. Twenty years on they remain blissfully in love. Everything is perfect – she has the man she loves, a gorgeous daughter, a great job and a dream home. But Mel’s happiness is overshadowed by a niggling feeling that it’s all been a bit too easy. Despite her husband Adam’s efforts to reassure her that nothing bad is going to happen, Mel can’t shake the feeling that all good things must come to an end.

And then it happens...
Still can’t tell you what happens as I don’t want to spoil it for you but I can say that I’m thoroughly enjoying writing it and am utterly immersed in the characters, so much so that I’ve had tears streaming down my face while writing a couple of scenes – so an early warning that a box of tissues may be required! It’s involved more research than anything I’ve ever written before. Can’t give too much away as I don’t want to spoil the plot but it’s been fascinating learning more about something I’ve been interested in for a long time.
And Then It Happened will be published by Headline Review in hardback/airport edition on July 21 next year (ideal for those jetting off somewhere nice next summer!) and in paperback next October.
My publishers are working on a brand new look for this book. We have a new illustrator on board and are trying to come up with a jacket which hopefully accurately reflects my writing. Hope to post the jacket here for you to see early next year.
In the meantime, and because I know it seems a long wait for the next one right now, there’s something new for you to read on the Things I Wish I’d Known page. A deleted chapter no less, rescued from the editing room floor and resurrected just in time for Christmas! I don’t often write too much but unfortunately this chapter had to go in the editing stage for Things I Wish I’d Known. However if you have fond (or not so fond) memories of your first teenage party you may like to catch up with Claire and Frankie at theirs – but watch out for a few cringe-worthy eighties moments! Hope you enjoy it. Please do let me know what you think through the website, Fans of author Linda Green on Facebook or Twitter (follow LindaGreenisms).
Anyway, must get back to the book. It’s going to be a bit of a slog for me over Christmas but I have given myself Christmas Eve (which is actually my favourite day of the festive season) and Christmas Day off. Can’t wait to see my little boy opening his presents – although hopefully not too early!
Have a great Christmas and hope 2011 brings you everything you wish for.
Linda
