Diary Entry Feb 2009

Paperback publication day for 10 Reasons Not to Fall in Love on March 5 is approaching fast. I’m busy working with the team at Headline on publicity and promotion. It’s a very strange time as I’ve been tucked away in my office (which is the converted garage of our house) for nearly 18 months, writing furiously, hardly seeing a soul and being generally very anti-social. Then suddenly you have to go out into the big wide world to promote and sell your book – all rather a shock to the system as you emerge squinting into the sunlight (or in this case the snow).

Anyway, very excited about it all and can’t wait to see the novel on the bookshop shelves. The early feedback from the few who have read it has been very good so I’m hoping it continues that way, please do e-mail me via this website with your feedback (good or not so good!) and any questions you have.

If anyone reading this lives in West Yorkshire I hope to be signing copies of 10 Reasons Not to Fall in Love in the Book Case in Hebden Bridge on Saturday March 7 at 11am and will be reading from the novel at Eureka! The National Children’s Museum in Halifax on Sunday March 22 at 11.30am and 12.30pm. It’s all part of their Mothers’ Day celebrations and the balloon modeller whose performance two years ago gave me the idea for the story will be providing the entertainment. Am looking forward to meeting him properly although it will be quite strange as he is ‘Dan’ in my head. Even stranger is that I’ve discovered he lives on a canal boat in real life so it looks like my characterisation work was spot on!

In the meantime have the small matter of moving house to contend with (timing lousy as usual but it is all in a good cause as our son should get a place in a lovely village primary school in September and our new home will be the front half of a converted church which should be great fun.

And am gamely cracking on with the next novel, of course, (working title The Dream List) which is set in the present day and in the mid-eighties and is a book for anyone who ever had a pin-up on their bedroom wall and who ever wonders what happened to those idealistic teenage dreams.

Hope you enjoy the book

Linda
