Diary Entry July 2011

Am finally updating the diary as I’m in that very rare ‘in between books’ time, which I suspect will last no more than a matter of days.

I have the first hardback copies of And Then It Happened on my desk. The first draft was finished in February, the rewrite (which focussed on trying to get the most from my characters and situation and ensure the ending had an uplifting feel to it) was submitted in May and I then had to go through the copy-edited version and hardback and paperback proofs for any last-minute alterations.

I have to say it’s been by far the toughest novel I’ve written, mainly down to the amount of research involved. I owe a huge debt of thanks to all those people who helped me with it. But as well as being the most difficult to write, it’s also been the most rewarding and I’m delighted with the final product – although I should warn you to have a box of tissues handy when you read it!

Coming up with the final jacket was also a difficult process and we went through several different versions before finally settling on the paperback one you see on the home page. The novel is a big grown-up love story and we felt it needed a different look to my previous three novels, something which would appeal to 30/40-something readers who wanted a story with a bit of depth to it. It is a move away from the chick-lit style covers and I have to say it’s by far my favourite jacket so far. Thanks to Kate Forrester, my new illustrator.

The hardback jacket has a grey background but my publishers decided to have a blue sky  background for the paperback and add silver clouds. I hope you like it too, do let me know what you think.
The hardback will be published by Headline Review on July 21and is available to order now through the And Then It Happened page on this website. Unfortunately there’s not going to be a trade paperback edition (the large format paperback edition sold at airports) this time, simply due to the current economic climate. The kindle edition is also available from July 21, link to buy on the And Then It Happened page.

I also have news of my first foreign rights; And Then It Happened is going to be published in Poland, which is great news and I’ve got my fingers-crossed that there will be more European deals to come.
The paperback will be published in the UK on October 13 but to keep you going until then, you can read the prologue and first chapter on the And Then It Happened page. As always, please do let me know what you think through Facebook (Fans of Author Linda Green), Twitter (LindaGreenisms) or by emailing me via the contact me link on this site.

In the meantime I’m off to catch up on my reading pile (Can highly recommend The Last Letter from your Lover by Jojo Moyes and Emma Donoghue’s Room, which I’ve recently read), before starting work on my next novel.
Thanks for your support

Linda
