Diary Entry Sept 2007

The hardback edition of I DID A BAD THING was published back in February. Great to finally hold the book in my hand, nine years after I quit a perfectly good day job to try to get a novel published.

Early feedback is very positive, although my father was ‘disappointed with the language’. Am considering asking my publishers for a ‘U’ certificate edition to give to my mother (who won’t go to see any film with a ‘15’ certificate or above) and grandmother, who thinks I have written something nice like ‘Little House on the Prairie’. Ho hum….

I thoroughly enjoyed my first reading at the Hebden Bridge Arts Festival in July and was pleasantly surprised that complete strangers came, laughed in the right places and even bought the book.
Can’t wait until October 18 when the paperback is published. The plan is for the very loud playing of the Beatles’ Paperback Writer as a wake-up call, a trip to Waterstones in Manchester to say ‘I wrote that’ (also very loudly) and a possible local launch party (but only if I finish my son’s third birthday cake for the next day in time!)
